The seven giants of Scholven, the cooling towers of the 3.500 MW e.on, power station in Gelsenkirchen.

Although you can see the chimneys and cooling towers of the power station from half Nordrhein Westphalia it has lasted till I had found the right place for the start of the kite and the KAP-Rig. The other conditions like weather, wind direction and strength of the wind had only to be correct now to leave the kite on a fallow area north of the power station and make such a look into the cooling towers possible. This already prepared me a little palpitations of the heart when I have left the tiny camera up in direction of these gigantic concrete towers.

Photo below on the left:
Behind the oil tank, the "Rigips" plant which reprocesses the plaster out of the desulfurization plant of the power station.
Right at the horizon, the new "Schalke" stadium in Gelsenkirchen, "the arena on Schalke".

The kite slowly climbs up to the top edge of the giants, to make a look
 into the cooling towers possible.

Kite: Flow Form # 1, Windspeed: approx.5 - 7 m/s, North

At first I had tryed to lift the camera with the hexagon "Ghost Buster" at a wind speed of 5 -7 m/s. This hang-glider has a steeper flight angle than the Flow form. After a test flying time without camera for approx. 5 min. the wind speed was already too high for this kite, so that a safe flight couldn't be ensured. Well, so I reached for the Flow-Form once again. At this windspeed it could be only the smaller version with a 1.75 m ².

After approx. 50 min. flying time the altogether 168 photos were "in the box" or on the 128 MByte chip of the Sony DSC P5 and the FF#1 had proved itself once by her safe and primarily quiet flight again. Catching up the kite already prepared me some effort at this wind speed. Therefore I think about the making of a third, smaller version with an approx. 1.25 m ².
