Storm tide protection:
There are, also like on other East Frisian islands, storm tides on the island Langeoog every year. The place Langeoog is protected by dikes from a flood. The middle and eastern area of the island is protect by the dunes before the high water. Unfortunately, sand is taken down from the dunes in the middle area of the island and washed to the eastern beach of the island by the storm tides and the flow. To prevent a flood of the island in the middle area, here are stored the water stocks of the island which may not be polluted by the saltwater of the North Sea, the dunes must be strengthened in the area of the Pirolatals now.

    Passage through the dunes:
To protect the dunes from a breaking through in the Pirolatal, it was required to strengthen a section with sand this year again. To do this the dune was broken through to get a passage and make it possible to come behind the dunes.

Sand from the eastern part of the island:
The needed sand was fetched from the beach of the island east of the youth hostel. There is a positive sand balance at the moment. This means by low and high tide as well as the west east flow sand is not taken but given here. For this reason sand can be excavated here and driven with trucks to the Pirolatal easily. The sand is loaded at low tide and transported over the beach. The excavated places are already filled with sand again after a few tides. I would like to express a praise to the drivers who always have taken great consideration on the vacationists in this place.

Unloading, distributing and forming 130.000 m of ³ sand:
Behind this still available, narrow dune stripes in the Pirolatal these approx. 130.000 m ³ sand becomes unloaded and distributed with a bulldozer. At this time the sand is not only simply brought in and distributed but dunes are formed closely to nature. The dune height after completion is between 8 and 12 m and the breadth is 60 m. To do these photos, of course I couldn't run during the work with my kite on the building site of the dunes. Therefore I have started the kite of the beach in front of the dunes and also made my photos from there. At this I haven't seen the truck and the bulldozer but have orientated me only to my hearing.

The fleet of vehicles:
To transport the 130.000³ m of  sand, six  VOLVO trucks were used. These trucks and the bulldozer were built behind the dune passage for a good KAP-object at the weekend by the drivers, I find.
